University of California Staff and Students to Unite in Protest. (September 18, 2009)

With the beginning of the 2009/10 academic year the staff and students of the ten campuses of the University of California have called for a walkout on September 24 in protest of the decisions made by the university's administration attacking the very fabric of one of the world's outstanding institutions of learning and research.

By now many of you are already aware of the UC Faculty Walkout that will occur on September 24th. More than 800 faculty have now signed the walkout call posted here: http://ucfacultywalkout.com/

880 graduate students have signed a similar call here: http://www.gradstudentstoppage.com/

We write to announce that the UC Student Association has unanimously passed a "Resolution in Support of the September 24 UC-Wide Walkout." The UCSA is a a membership organization of over 200,000 U.C. undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The final two paragraphs read as followed:

LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that for the aforementioned reasons the University of California Student Association will participate in the UC system-wide Walkout on September 24th.

LET IT FINALLY BE RESOLVED, that the University of California Student Association stand in solidarity with workers, GSE’s, staff and faculty and actively build coalitions with these groups for the purpose of the UC system-wide Walkout on September 24th and the continued defense of the future of public education in California.
