According to Clive Hamilton Generous Endowments to Australian Universities by the Fossil Fuel Lobby Could be a Double-edged Sword. (June 14, 2007)

Dr Clive Hamilton, Chair, Climate Institute (Australia) and Executive Director of The Australia Institute, Australian National University in an address given before the Australia and New Zealand Climate Change and Business Conference in Adelaide on February 20, 2006 singled out a group of 12 individuals which include Prime Minister John Howard, businessman Hugh Morgan and The Australian's editor-in-chief, Chris Mitchell - as "the dirty dozen".  He said then a "climate change policy in Canberra has for years been determined by a small group of lobbyists who happily describe themselves as the ‘greenhouse mafia’. This cabal consists of the executive directors of a handful of industry associations in the coal, oil, cement, aluminium, mining and electricity industries. Almost all of these industry lobbyists have been plucked from the senior ranks of the Australian Public Service where they wrote briefs and cabinet submissions and advised ministers on energy policy."

Now a year and a half on he with Christian Downie have written University Capture detailing the what they see as the seduction of the universities through large grants.
