CSIRO and Friends' 8 Year Project to Lower Cost of Solar Thermal Power to 10 Cents per Kilowatt Hour. (January 11, 2013)

An eight year project, costed at $87 million, to reduce the price of solar thermal power from $0.25 to $0.10 per kilowatt hour is being undertaken by a consortium to be led by CSIRO and including The Australian National University, University of Queensland, The University of Adelaide, The University of South Australia, Queensland University of Technology and Flinders University as well as the United States’ Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Sandia Corporation and Arizona State University.

 

The funding includes $35 million from the Australian Solar Institute and Australian Renewable Energy Agency and CSIRO has announced that it intends to develop fully solar thermal technology, beyond mere demonstration stage, to profitable commercialisation.
