NIH to Demand Strict Open Access. (November 22, 2012)

 

The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced that beginning in the northern hemisphere Spring next year, it will withhold the next instalment of grant funding from recipients who have not complied with NIH policy to submit papers arising from NIH-funded research to the PubMed Central repository when they have been accepted for publication. Free public access must be agreed to within 12 months of publication.

 

Currently the rate of compliance is 75%.
