With a Salute to Harry Robinson. (November 4, 2012)

The late Harry Robinson who wrote so many of the most readable Op-Eds for TFW, in 1985 wrote a small volume he titled The Bookie Book. We mention this because Harry made the observation in conversation that it's pointless to agonise over political polls because pollsters' livelihoods don't immediately depend on being right, i.e. it takes a while for their mistakes to become financially debilitating.

With bookmakers, however, it's a different matter, mistakes, especially big ones, can be ruinous financially.

Therefore, herewith we reprint the latest odds given by a number of online bookies with regard to the odds on the outcome of the US presidential election.
