Oxford’s Google Books Project Goes Officially Online from the Bodleian. (October 15, 2012)

In 2004 the University of Oxford joined with Google to make available the out of copyright contents of the university's libraries to the world's readers in pdf format. In many cases replicas of first editions are now available through SOLO (Search Oxford Libraries Online). SOLO also expects to go "on the move" very soon to allow easy access from tablets and smart phones.

So if as the Bodleian suggests you'd like to have a look at "the first English translation of Newton's Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy from 1729, the first edition of Jane Austen's Emma, the first edition of Charles Darwin's On the Origins of Species and John Cassell's Illustrated History of England", you can at the touch of a keypad or touch screen.

Below we reprint the Bodleian's announcement.
