US House of Representatives Approves "Stop the War on Coal Act." (September 27, 2012)

The United States House of Representatives passed the  Coal Miner Employment and Domestic Energy Infrastructure Protection Act H.R. 3409, on Sept. 21, 2012. It is a package of five bills that would reduce the regulatory authority of the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Interior.

Included in the act is prohibition of the EPA to regulate carbon dioxide emissions and setting limits on greenhouse gas emissions for power generation facilities. It would also prevent both the EPA and the Department of the Interior from implementing any legislation that might harm the coal industry.

President Obama has indicated that he would  veto the legislation if it passes the Senate.
