Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Center for World-Class Universities Releases 2012 Rankings. (August 15, 2012)

The Center for World-Class Universities at Shanghai Jiao Tong University today released the 10th edition of its annual global university ranking of the world's top 500 research universities. Harvard University remains number one in the world for the tenth year running.

One point that needs to be stressed is that the scores (given only for the top 100) as well as the rankings need to be taken into account. So, for example, Harvard University ranked 1, is given a score of 100, Stanford University ranked 2, scores 72.8.

 

The top 25 contain 1 Japanese, 1 Swiss, 4 British and 19 from the United States.  Of the top 50, 10 are Californian despite the state's cash strapped status.

 

 

 

 

              The overall scores for Australia's top five:

          Melbourne - 30.1, 

ANU - 29.1, 

              Queensland - 25.3, 

     Sydney - 24.6, 

                       Western Australia - 24.4
