Evolution of Darwin's Thinking Goes Online. (April 18, 2008)

Some 90,000 pages of manuscripts, field notes, photographs and sketches associated with Charles Darwin have been made available online, where they can be viewed free.

The collection includes his first formulation of the theory of natural selection, including his first written doubts that species were fixed.

Included as well is the correspondence from his wife Emma on religious faith.

The project, based in Cambridge, began six years ago and Dr John van Wyhe, Darwin online director, said: "[The documents] have been known to scholars, but for the first time they are available to everyone for free online."
