Foundation CEO of Universities Australia, Glen Withers, Puts the Importance of the Gonski Review in a Telling Thumbnail. (August 23, 2012)

Writing in the August 21, 2012 The Conversation Glen Withers, foundation CEO of Universities Australia, currently ANU professor of economics, summed up his assessment of the Gonski Review of Funding for Schooling:

...Above all there must be very clear and meaningful delegation of responsibility and accountability to local school communities.

Also the reform in schools can be allied with further finalisation of reforms in tertiary education and in early childhood education, so that a full vision of our future can be delivered – and a staged and ongoing sequence of pay-offs from a year or two ahead to decades before us will result. This aspiration is the missing narrative of contemporary Australian politics.

Were it to actually be instituted it would require proactive bipartisan political support at state and federal levels and would take a powerfully led decade-long drive.

So does anyone seriously believe that's going to happen?
