Telling it Like it is. (June 16, 2006)
The
Minister for Finance and Administration and Leader of the Government in the
Senate, South Australian Nick Minchin although stating the bleeding obvious has
distanced himself from the nonsense emanating from the Minister for Education,
Science and Training, Julie Bishop among others, regarding the prospect of
constructing nuclear power plants in Australia.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports:
Fielding a question in the Senate, Senator Minchin... said it was wrong to link the incidents at Lucas Heights to the nuclear power debate.
"Nuclear power could only really be viable if you so taxed the coal and gas industries as to make them unviable," he said.
"Assuming that this Government is not so silly as to price out a business … then it is my view that nuclear power is unlikely to be viable, but that is one of the things that we will discover from this inquiry."
