Entries Accepted for The Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists. (June 26, 2013)

The announcement by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) reads:

Science/AAAS and SciLifeLab, a coordinated effort of four Swedish universities, have joined forces in creating the Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists. Both Science/AAAS and SciLifeLab recognize that global economic health is dependent upon a vibrant research community and we need to incentivize our best and brightest to continue in their chosen fields of research. Considering the difficult economic environment, we feel it is important to provide extra encouragement to young scientists as they begin their scientific careers. Each year, the grand prize winner will receive a prize of US$25,000. The runner-up to the grand prize will receive US$5,000 and the two other finalists will receive US$2,500 each. Science/AAAS and SciLifeLab look forward to reviewing the research findings from future entrants.

The Prize is awarded annually to one young scientist for outstanding life science research for which he/she was awarded a doctoral degree in the previous year. The topic of the entrant's thesis research must be in one of the following categories: Genomics/Proteomics/Systems Biology; Developmental Biology (including evolution); Molecular and Cellular Biology; or Environmental Life Science (including biodiversity). Eligsible entrants must have been awarded their doctoral degree in either 2011 or 2012, and the subject of their thesis should match one of the above Subject Tracks. The winners from each category will compete for the grand prize.

Application deadline: August 15, 2013
