Professor John H. Marburger, III Returns to Gainful Employment. (December 18, 2009)

The president of Stony Brook University last week announced that John Marburger has agreed to serve as the Interim Vice President for Research at Stony Brook University (New York) effective January 21, 2010.

Professor Marburger served as Science Advisor to President George W. Bush, and Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy from 2001-2009. Previously he had served as Director of Brookhaven National Laboratory (1998-2001) and prior to that he was Stony Brook University's third president (1980-1994).

Regarding the appointment Professor Marburger said: "I'm glad to help President Stanley as he leads Stony Brook into a new decade of challenges and opportunities. The university is well poised to grow in its value to New York State and the nation, especially through its missions of research and regional development that the Research Office supports. My job is to prepare the way for my successor to succeed."

It's not unreasonable to assume that he will find his role as Interim Vice President for Research more rewarding than that of Science Advisor to President George W Bush.
