Future Fellowship Consultation Paper Released by Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. (May 23, 2008)

Senator Kim Carr, the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research today has requested that all interested who wish to express views on the form of the Future Fellowship program, make them known to the minister by June 27, 2008.

 

To assist respondents a nine page "Consultation Paper" has been made available.

 

In his introduction, Senator Carr writes: [T]he Government promised to introduce a Future Fellowships scheme for outstanding mid-career researchers. This consultation paper is the first step towards delivering on that promise... By reading and commenting on this consultation paper, you will help us create a better Future Fellowships scheme...

 

The program is designated to offer up to 1,000 four year fellowships ranging from $95,000 to $135,000 per annum plus 28% on-costs. An additional  $50,000 will be awarded to the Fellow's institution.

 

With the immediate injection of $500 million for upgrading universities infrastructure, together with what is hoped will be significant additional federal support in the coming years, a real change for the betterment of universities may be in the offing.
