A Cautionary Note from Times Past on Scientific Censorship. (September 21, 2006)

    Over the past couple weeks there have been several missives regarding the analysis of terrorism by Australian researchers1, 2. Most alarming, however, was federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock's warning to Flinders University sociologist, Riaz Hassan that in pursuing his proposed ARC funded study he might be in breach of Australia's new terror laws.

 

While there is little indication at present that the extremes referred to in a "Correspondence" in today's Nature are immediately pertinent, their recollection may be salutary.
