Labor Leader Drastically Reshuffles Research and Industry Portfolios in Shadow Cabinet. (October 26, 2004)

Victorian Senator Kim Carr, Shadow Minister for Science and Research from 25.11.01 and Shadow Minister for Industry and Innovation from 2.7.03 has been relieved of these duties by Labor Leader Mark Latham and with today's announcement of the new shadow cabinet becomes responsible for Public Administration and Open Government, Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation , and the Arts.

Jenny Macklin while continuing in her role as Deputy Labor Leader, has had her shadow ministerial responsibilities altered from Employment, Education and Training  to Education, Training, Science and Research while Industry, Infrastructure and Industrial Relations  have become the province of Stephen Smith. The term "innovation" has been dropped from the shadow cabinet descriptors.

At this point it is not clear who will be assisting Ms Macklin with her expanded responsibilities but Senator Carr will be representing Science and Research in the Senate and in all probability will continue to do so in Estimates.
