Federal Science Minister Peter McGauran today welcomed the students at a lunch hosted by the Australian Academy of Science. It's the inauguration of a program giving 20 graduates an opportunity to work in Australia with the hope of encouraging them to undertake further research in Australia perhaps for a long term.

The Australian Government has provided $240,000 over three years for the Summer Graduate Programme which was developed by the Australian Academy of Science and the National Science Foundation, the principal US funding body for basic research.
