University Resourcing: Australia in an International Context

It is worth noting that three of the twelve Australian universities are members of the Group of Eight, considered at the top of our higher education system.

From Canada neither McGill nor the University of Toronto were included although they are the only two Canadian university members of the American Association of Universities (AAU) considered the leading 63 North American research universities.

In the case of Sweden Uppsala was neglected in favour of Stockholm, no Swiss school was chosen and from the U.K. Edinburgh, Cambridge and Oxford were ignored.

Of the United States schools only Oklahoma State is a state university; Georgetown is a Catholic school while Pennsylvania, Stanford and Yale are highly endowed private universities.
